Position Summary: The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant performs clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers the telephone, relays messages and acts as a receptionist receiving and directing visitors and ambulatory patients. The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant is responsible for direct patient care services as assigned by the Clinical Director and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
-High School graduate
-Successful completion of Medical Terminology course and a passing score on the examination. Or may substitute 2 years previous specific work experience with medical terminology for the Medical Terminology course certification. (Example: HIM Tech, Paralegal, Medical Biller, Medical Secretary, Patient Access Representative)
-Completion of approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training or successful completion of fundamentals semester of Nursing school preferred.
-Successful completion of certification examination for Nursing Assistant.
-American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years.
Experience: One year Clerical experience or Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
Special Skills: Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
